Kalkan offers the perfect combination of authentic Turkish charm and refined living. The town itself is set against the backdrop of the Taurus Mountains and centred around a quaint harbour. Winding streets packed with low-level whitewashed homes give Kalkan a traditionally Mediterranean feel, which is carefully preserved with stringent rules regarding new buildings. Those interested in ancient architecture will find plenty of Lycian remnants to admire, with the famous sites of Letoon and Xanthos also within easy travelling distance.

Finding plenty to keep you occupied here is a breeze, with much of the daytime activity taking place around the gorgeous beaches. Water sports such as surfing and paddle boarding are popular, while the clear waters provide the ideal conditions for diving. As the sun begins to set, take a stroll around the markets to pick up some interesting mementoes of your trip. The shops are open late and vendors are happy to help, with no hard sell.

Once you have found some bargains, it is time to indulge in one of Kalkan’s favourite pastimes – eating. There are plenty of truly outstanding places to eat here, ranging from small family-run cafes offering hearty delicious local food to the finest restaurants serving high-end delicacies in sophisticated surroundings.

With plenty to see and do in one of the most beautiful towns you could hope to find, Kalkan is a true Turkish treasure.
