Aeolian cuisine has a distinct Ancient Greek influence alongside firm roots in early fishing traditions. Dishes are packed with flavour and make use of a variety of gorgeously fresh ingredients, including basil, oregano, lemon, olives, garlic, tomatoes, and capers. Here are just a few of our favourites.

Great food on the Italian islands - Eat delicious dishes from local restaurants

Sample an Aeolian Seafood Salad on your Sailing Getaway

Seafood caught from the waters around the Aeolian Islands is like no other, which is why it’s impossible to go wrong when selecting a seafood salad from a menu wherever you are in the Italian Islands. Expect to be presented with lightly pan fried fresh squid, cuttlefish, and prawns dressed with olive oil, parsley, chilli, garlic, capers, and black olives. A touch of salt and a generous squeeze of lemon juice is all that’s needed to finish this delightfully fresh and flavourful dish.

Pane Cunzato

Sometimes the simplest dishes are the very best. If you order a pane cunzato your plate will arrive with a slice of grilled bread, seasoned with a flavourful locally produced olive oil, on top of which will sit a generously portioned mixture of tomatoes, basil, and oregano. You will also have the opportunity to add a variety of other toppings, making this a very customisable dish. An ideal late breakfast or early lunch choice, this deceptively filling plate will keep you feeling satisfied and full of energy until your next meal.

Sword Fish Pasta with Fresh Mint

It’s no secret that you’re going to find yourself tempted by an array of incredible pasta dishes throughout your Italian sailing getaway. Every single one of them is certain to be delicious, but we have a soft spot for this particular dish and we think you might enjoy it too. Cubed sword fish is lightly sautéed with garlic, olive oil, white wine, salt, and pepper before being gently simmered with deliciously fresh roughly chopped tomatoes. Served with perfectly cooked pasta and a generous helping of fresh mint, this dish is light, filling, and a real treat for the taste buds.
