Athens is a wonderful place to explore, with its ancient architecture, friendly people and excellent night life.

Think of the city and the iconic Acropolis is likely to spring to mind – a wander round this well-preserved site will transport you back in time to a time when Greece was the centre of the civilised world.
Another must-visit ancient site is the famous Agora, from which you will get a stunning view of the Acropolis. This is the perfect pace to take a bit of time out as it is amazingly peaceful and has a uniquely timeless atmosphere.

You may not associate Athens with beaches, but just a short way from the bustling city centre there are several beautiful ones – the best to the south, reached via a quick metro journey. The outer edges can be crowded, but become far quieter as you travel further away from the city, so take a picnic, relax and people watch.

After soaking up all that culture and sun, you’ll probably be ready for a night out, and Athens boasts a great variety of places to eat, drink and be merry. Many of the best spots are located in and around Syntagma Square, which is easy as it is the central transport hub in the city.sailing-greece-olive-tree-yacht-getaways
Home to both some impressive national gardens and Greek Parliament, it is well worth exploring by day, but it is after dark that this area really comes into its own. After a great night out, you’ll be more than ready to continue on your Greece sailing holiday, safe in the knowledge that you’ve made the most of your pit-stop in one of Europe’s most fascinating cities.
