Croatia is famed for its excellent wine and an excursion to one of the many vineyards around Jelsa is highly recommended. Not only will you get to sample some fantastic vintages but also many offer the opportunity to enjoy some local cuisine in stunning surroundings.

If you are driving around the island, you can also see some of the beautiful lavender fields and explore the majesty of the Stari Grad plains, a UNESCO heritage site of great agricultural significance. The southern part of the island is also home to some truly beautiful beaches.

Hvar Town is a bustling hub with plenty going on. Much of the action takes place around St Stephen’s Square, where you can admire the spectacular baroque cathedral that looms over the plaza. In addition to plentiful shops, there are numerous cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy great food and drink or simply watch the world go by. Browse some of the other main attractions, including the historic Arsenal and the Franciscan monastery, or climb to the hilltop fort to enjoy breathtaking views across the town and bay.

Whether you want to explore the craggy wonders of the interior or enjoy the bustling coastal party scene, Hvar really does have something for everyone.
