The good news about packing for a sailing holiday is that if you are planning a trip to the Mediterranean in high season you won’t need many clothes at all. There are, however, some essentials you will need and some others you may find useful. This simple guide will give you an idea of where to begin.

Shoes and clothes

For a seven-day summer trip a couple of swimsuits, shorts, t-shirts and a few evening outfits are all you should need. Pack some travel wash if you want to rinse things out. Make sure you pack at least one pair of non-slip, closed shoes such as sports or deck shoes to stay safe on board, along with towels, sunglasses, a sun hat and plenty of sun cream and lip balm. If you are planning a trip in late or early season, you should also include at least one pair of trousers and a sweater or fleece. Wet weather gear is also be a good idea. Try to pack everything in an easy-to-stow soft bag rather than a suitcase. Some of these have their own wheels or you can invest in a fold-up trolley if you need it.

Personal care

You will be able to get supplies throughout your sailing holiday but it is a good idea to start out with some insect repellent, antiseptic cream, travel sickness tablets and cream for insect bites, along with day-to-day toiletry items. Don?t forget to pack any regular medication that you have to take.

You will of course need your ID card or passport and it is important to check if you need a visa if you are not from an EU country. Pack your driving licence, your European Health Insurance card if you are eligible, other insurance documents and any bank and credit cards you may need along with some currency.

Remember to pack chargers for your phone, camera or other equipment and don’t forget a supply of any batteries you might need before you can get to a shop.
