The Cyclades Islands are among the most beautiful territories in Greece. There are several islands that are well known, such as Santorini and Mykonos, and others that are much less busy with tourists, such as Delos, Naxos and Ios. If you really want to get off the beaten track, however, the island of Anafi could be just what you are looking for.

Sailing in Greece - Top island stop-offs

Legend has it that the island of Anafi rose from the bottom of the sea to provide the Argonauts with a safe haven during their epic sea voyage. If you are cruising the Greek islands, it is sure to provide you with a similar welcome respite. The domed whitewashed buildings of Hora rise out of the bay of Ayios Nikolaos, greeting visitors with a typically postcard-perfect scene.

Once on the island, explore the ancient town of Anafi with its winding streets and acropolis with interesting tombs and sculptures. At the foot of the mount of Kalamos is a monastery and the ancient temple of Apollo. Climb to the top of the peak to see another monastery and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding seas and nearby islands.

You can get around the island in a variety of ways, including walking, cycling, and even riding on a donkey. Lie back on the beautiful beaches, swim in the clear waters or simply take in the laidback and peaceful atmosphere of this tranquil paradise.
