Enjoy The Beaches Of Naxos Whilst Cruising The Greek Islands

By Yacht Getaways Team published on 1 March 2017

Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, may not be quite as well known as its neighbours Santorini and Mykonos, but this destination is definitely one not to miss whilst cruising the Greek islands. It offers a perfect combination of a town packed with authentic Greek charm and some of the best beaches you could hope to find. Whether you want to simply relax or to try out some of the many water sports available here, Naxos is an ideal location for a beachside break.

The main town of Chora is also the island’s capital, somehow managing to be both busy and beautiful. It is a bustling harbour but has a majestic feel thanks to the spectacular Venetian-influenced architecture that can be seen throughout the town. The remains of several temples add to the grandeur, whilst the views across the water are breathtaking.

It is not just Chora that draws in the visitors, with the entire west side of the island dotted with spectacular beaches featuring long stretches of sand. Plaka and Orkos are two of the most popular, with soft sand and delightful clear waters. If you prefer to relax somewhere a little quieter, Pyrgaki and Maragas are equally lovely but usually less busy.

Naxos is also perfectly situated for those who enjoy water sports, with the winds that blow past the beach of Mikri Vigla making it ideal for windsurfing or kitesurfing. Visitors can also enjoy other water sports, such as paddle boarding or diving, both here and at Agios Prokopios. Whether you want to try your hand at these or just lie back on some of Greece’s most beautiful sands, Naxos has the perfect beach.
