Get further afield with bespoke Greek island sailing holidays

There are many popular islands to visit when sailing around Greece and one of the joys of being able to design your own trip is that you can visit those that may not be available on less flexible trips. If you are visiting the Cyclades, it is worth taking a look at the gorgeous island of Amorgos, just south of Naxos. This island has everything you want from a Greek paradise, including stunning scenery, great beaches and typically enchanting architecture.

Sailing in Greece - Planning your visit

Chora is the main village, featuring plenty of spectacular Byzantine and Venetian architecture. Wander among the winding streets filled with pretty whitewashed houses, admire the windmills and enjoy the breathtaking views this mountain-top location offers. The island is also home to one of the most spectacular Greek monasteries, Panagia Hozoviotissa. This ancient church has been literally built into the side of the cliff and whilst you will need to scale a long stone staircase to reach it, it is certainly worth the walk. Said to resemble a chest of drawers, this eight-storey building not only has some incredible relics but also naturally offers truly jaw-dropping views.

There are plenty of beaches here, from the popular to the virtually undiscovered. Katapola is among the most frequented, with its sandy shores making it a firm favourite for families and couples alike, while Aegilia is another popular choice. If you are visiting the monastery, it is also worth taking a walk down to the pretty pebbly beach of Agia Anna for a refreshing swim in the clear waters.

This jewel of the Cyclades is absolutely enchanting and it is no surprise that several iconic scenes from Luc Besson’s The Big Blue were filmed here. If you want your Greek island sailing holidays to take in less-visited sites, arranging a bespoke itinerary will ensure you sail the perfect route.
