Those enjoying boat hire in Croatia will almost certainly be visiting the island of Hvar, with its numerous attractions. However, whilst you are here, take the time to visit the nearby Pakleni Islands.

This chain of islands just in front of the port of Hvar is a six-mile stretch of outstanding natural beauty, belying the name, which translates as Hell’s Islands. Sveti Klement is the largest of these enchanting isles and is where the main marina can be found. However, the real joy here is that many of the islands are free from development and offer plenty of scope to find a quiet hideaway all to yourself.

There are numerous places to swim and sunbathe, from the naturist beaches at Jerolim and Stipanska to the pebbled shores of Palmizana. There is also the Meneghello Palace to explore on Sveti Klement, which is a fascinating collection of buildings set among stunning tropical gardens. It is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious local meal, followed by an open air concert.

The Pakleni Islands are just a short distance from Hvar but they feel a world away. Enjoy the ambience of a remote island getaway, whilst still staying conveniently located near one of Croatia’s most popular islands, with a visit to the Hvar Riviera.
